Description
-
Melanotan 2 (MT-2, MT-II) is a synthetic peptide first developed at the University of Arizona in the 1980s–1990s to stimulate tanning with minimal sun exposure.
What it is and how it works
-
MT-2 is a lab-made analogue of the body’s natural hormone alpha‑melanocyte–stimulating hormone (α‑MSH), which regulates skin pigmentation.
-
Compared with natural α‑MSH, MT-2 is more potent and has a longer duration of action, which can amplify both desired effects (tanning) and side effects.
Typical research use patterns
-
In many research protocols, MT-2 is administered via a short daily “loading” phase, then transitioned to a less frequent “maintenance” schedule (often weekly).
-
The most commonly encountered vial strength is 10 mg, and the usual route of administration in studies is subcutaneous (SubQ) injection.
-
- Keep sealed in the original Vial.
- Keep dry away from moisture.
- Store cold at 2–8 °C (standard refrigerator temperature).
- Store frozen for longer term storage
- Keep refrigerated to maintain quality. Do not freeze.
- Follow your laboratory rules for handling and how long it stays fresh.
